Chevron bus ads back, with a less graffiti-ish font

You might have noticed the blue and white ads on the side of your Muni bus a few weeks back – I think I spotted one on Van Ness a while back. Some of them say “I will use less energy” and “I will leave my car at home.” All innocent enough. A Contra Costa Times report said that these ads from Chevron were taken down after Muni chief executives thought the font was too much like graffiti.

After a change in fonts (from a hand-writing type font to a more … official-looking one), the ads are due back on San Francisco buses soon, according to the Contra Costa Times report.

Personally I would have thought it was really cool if a graffiti artist painted “I will leave my car at home” on the side of the bus. I guess I’m a fan of guerrilla marketing. And to have a company like Chevron to do a more edgy ad like this, why not? I say Muni needs to loosen up a little.
