Night of the New Flyers

Inside 9121

Late Friday Night, coming home from the tree lightning, I saw one of these buses, and hopped on. I haven’t been on any of these since July 2006. Sure, there’s no point in being excited in riding these buses, but at least they’re clean and warm, am I right? I’ve never seen pee on them, and even if they do have graffiti on these buses, it is very minimal. They even have more room, but they are beginning to become rare now.

There weren’t many people on the bus, just about 5-6 people on the bus. Which is pretty rare for me, because I don’t ride the 38 often, and it’s usually full.

    Ah. This is when I love taking the bus and think to myself, why would I ever complain about it, ever? For $1.50 it’s a pretty great deal, and people on my block probably stink more anyway…

    Is this really the 38? I need more evidence! I’ve never in all my 38-riding experiences seen the 38 so dead. Whole Wheat: What time were you riding? It might be worth rearranging my schedule for a ride of solace.

    I was riding this Friday night around 7-ish coming home from Union Square. This was on the 38, though you’ll find them on the 9 too. I don’t know when they exactly run, and it’s hard too since muni has, like, 6-9 of them left.

    Wow…am I really seeing/reading this? A 38 that is almost completely empty? Usually on my occasional jaunts to the Best Buy on Geary, the buses are completely jammed to the hilt full of people.

    Whole Wheat Toast: Muni has some New Flyers?? I thought they only used Neoplans and the trolley kind.

    @Edmund:

    Yeah, Muni had new flyers. the last ones retired in July 2007. They only kept, like, 9 of these babies. And they’re hard to find, because they usually run on the 9 and only during rush hour.

    @Whole Wheat Toast:

    Crap. The line that I don’t ever ride on. Maybe I’ll get lucky one day and see it going down Market. I wonder why they run on the 9 though…

    @Edmund: They used to run them on the 15, but after the 15 got discontinued, they started disposing of these buses. They disposed 12 of them in 2001 so they can last to 2012, but they retired in 2007 anyway. Some got repainted shortly after (the unretired ones).
