Until they get rid of ads and the “handy” information about taking BART to the Oakland Coliseum, these signs continue to suffer my wrath.

According to BART, it’s to give riders more information to make decisions such as whether to skip a train that’s packed to the gills with people and wait for the next one. I’m not sure whether riders are aware that each line generally has 15 minute headways (except for rush hour and some really early morning runs). So if you miss your red, yellow, green or blue line train…just hang around.

I think of it as a gauge to see if I have enough time to go forward one or two stops in order to secure a seat (and to escape the horrendous crowds at the downtown stations!).

I still want to know why anyone already at the station would need to know when the train-after-next is coming.

I like the new style for displaying the next arrivals. Makes it that much more easier to determine whether to take the approaching train you know will be jam packed with people or wait for the next one.

The ultimate information sign would be a hybrid of BART’s and MUNI’s. Take the NextMuni live beta style map (the one with the rough representation of the system showing the current position of each train), include the new next arrivals feature from BART and maybe add a ticker bar at the bottom for the extraneous information.
