Happy Friday to you, too, Mr. Bus Driver Man

Submitted by Muni rider 73-Jonathan (Inbound)

So often Muni operators are angry, bitter, incompetent, or — if we’re lucky — indifferent.

So it was a nice surprise to board the bus this morning and find a driver who brought some energy and humor to the morning commute.

I had a feeling this bus might be different when the overcrowded 14-Mission inbound (or was it the 49-Van Ness?) stopped in my outer Mission/Bernal Heights neighborhood and only the back doors opened.

Usually packed buses like this just fly on by.

I got on and shimmied my way to the back car of the extend-o-bus. Over the loudspeaker came the driver’s resonant baritone:

“It’s Friday
Tell yo’ boss to go away!
after you get yo’ pay … heh heh heh …”

Then, about one stop later:

“… and remember: Muni is al-ways on time.”

That elicited a whole busload of laughter, put a smile on my face and brightened the rest of my day.

Thanks Mr. Happy Bus Driver Man!

I had a super-cranky bus ride on the 30 yesterday. It was crowded as hell. The driver kept yelling at people to move back (only because he wouldn’t have been heard otherwise). He was a stern taskmaster. But I found the compassion to thank him for the ride when I got off the bus, and it took him off guard. He told me to have a nice day. :)
