Windowless on the 9X

muni-window1

Getting on the 9X today at Balboa Park and moving to back, I noticed that a side window had been removed and placed on the seat next to it. The gentleman shown here greatly enjoyed this unusual situation and made full use of it, frequently spitting on the parked cars the bus was passing along Geneva Ave.

A short while after this picture was taken, a colleague joined him. Upon discovering that the window was occupying a perfectly good seat, without hesitation he picked it up and threw it out of the bus, then sat down to continue his rapport with his friend.

Also note the amount of trash on the floor, a usual sight on buses around the Balboa Park area.

He either didn’t hear it or he didn’t care. I would have loved for the driver to stop and call police in the face of vandalizm. But most drivers on those lines seem lethargic; they don’t put up much resistance with anything, be it their buses getting tagged or otherwise trashed, or fare cheating. There was also someone (a pal of these guys sitting next to the windows) who ran alongside the bus for a while, trying to jump into the moving bus.

Moving from downtown out to this area has really opened my eyes to the extent of Muni’s problems. They are, Awe-inspiring with a capital A. Lines like the 38 or the 27 (which I before thought of as ghetto) now seem highly civilized and clean. I said it before and I say it again: you don’t have to take my word for it. Balboa Park is easy to reach, go there, and take a few buses such as the 43, 9, 14 during commute hours in the evening.

38 and 27 ghetto? Yeah, right. Pull your head out of your a**. The 9 and 9X goes through Sunnydale. 54 goes through Hunters Point. THAT is the reason why the drivers are lethargic. You would be too if 1/4 to 1/3 of your riders are thugs. Those are the lines where fare inspectors should be if Muni wants to reduce its deficit. Actually, they need fare inspectors who would do their jobs and actually confront/ticket their thug friends OR not be intimidated by thugs.
