No Smartphone? New features make it txtmuni time

txtmuni

I was waiting at 30th and Church for a 24-Divisadero to Bernal Heights on Friday when a most wondrous thing happened. I used txtmuni to ask when the next bus would be — and it sent me a message back asking whether I wanted information for the 24, the J, or the 26! All I had to do was reply with the one I wanted, and it gave me both inbound and outbound details.

Until now, the txtmuni feature run by Nextbus has just given you the information for the next Muni vehicle it expects to come along. But what if you’re at, say, 9th and Irving? You’d have to keep asking it to send information on vehicle after vehicle until it told you the right combination of route and direction (which, in some cases, it never did). I have to say, the new feature is a vast improvement, even though it requires sending extra txt messages to get the information you want.

Thanks, txtmuni!

Beth, thank you! I am one of the few people I know who still own the non-smart, non-cool regular phones. I’ll be using this on the regular.
