And from the short time that the police were on the bus that I happened to be on, it seemed uneventful. they didn't walk over to the back of the bus or anything. When all the hype is over, they'll go back to doing what they usually do and board, get the numbers they need from the operator, not even look around the bus, and one block later get off to get back into their patrol car. We need a police force dedicated just to the transit lines. We need transit police. If we had had that, maybe...just maybe that poor child wouldn't have gotten stabbed. At the very least, the cameras would have been working as the transit police would have been invested in all the cameras working. How long is that gonna last? This kind of thing works not because they might catch even a tiny fraction of the jerks, but because it makes people realize that there is a non-zero chance of them getting caught being a jerk and perhaps rethink their plan.
