Giant Spider Enjoys Evening Commute   10.30.09

Spider.jpg

Muni rider JimmyD shares this delightfully mischievous Muni tale:

Thursday around 5:00 on the N Judah, the lady in yellow had this giant spider that she had set on the seat next to her. When the train started to fill up she looked for another way her giant furry friend could ride without getting damaged so she hung it up! Props to her for A) being polite and B) making everyone near her smile. Happy Halloween!

Seen good Halloween trickery? Send it in!

J-K identity crisis   10.29.09

The Muni KJ-line

Muni rider Ace sends us this slice-of-life Muni fail.

Last night while I was waiting at Montgomery Station to go home, the disembodied female PA announced (and the electronic station signs confirmed) that an outgoing K was approaching. The train that pulled up bore “J-Church” on the front. The sign inside each car read “J-Balboa Park.” I wondered how the people inside knew where they were going…

Got some Muni anomaly to report? This is the place to do it.

How many 14-Missions does it take?   10.28.09

IMG00220
The 14-Mission, as seen through the back window of another 14-Mission, with another 14-Mission to its right. Photo by Tara.

Yeah, so Tara and I were lucky enough to have missed not one, but two 14-Missions on our way home from Bloodhound last night. We checked the NextBus marquee at Eighth and Mission only to discover that it would be seven minutes until the next bus arrived. It was a nice night out, windy but not too cold (or maybe our booze had us warm enough?), so we decided to walk up to at least South Van Ness, where we could catch a 49 or 14, whichever came first.

But miraculously, at Ninth, we noticed both 14s we had just watched fly by us, one parked at the stop, the other on the east side of the intersection, waiting its turn. We caught that second one.

Then, at Tenth, all hell broke lose when we lost the cables, sparks flying. Fine, typical enough event on an electric trolley in this town.

But by the time we recovered and made it up to Eleventh, we somehow (the physics of it escape me) passed that lead 14 (also electric), and then were soon tailed by a third 14. Three buses of the same route, all huddled a mere 15 or so blocks from the origin of the route. Amazing.

Extreme observation of the ‘no eating on Muni’ rule   10.27.09

IMG_0079.JPG

Muni rider Rose sends us this gruesome photo and description. Help her solve the mystery.

This greeted us last week at the Park Presidio-Geary stop for the 28. No, not a fake Halloween set, a real one with remnants of breakfast. What could be the story behind this?

Please don’t do that   10.26.09

nose-picker.jpg

I take the 31 towards Fillmore after I leave work. Normally, I walk the mile home but today I was particularly tired and wanted a quick trip. It was a quick ride but disgusting to say the least.

The bus was packed, smelled like like stale body odor and Cheetos, and of course, there had to be this guy. Standing up, holding on, trying not to breathe the stench in too much, I notice a man sitting down flailing about. He was shirtless with shorts and wearing sneakers with no socks. He had scabs all over his upper body and was talking to himself.

Now, I know I was not the only person praying to get the hell off that bus asap. Then, he stood up and started violently picking his nose. I mean really sticking his fingers up there. I could have barfed right then.

Soon after he took the same finger and proceeded to pick some food out of his teeth. I mean, he was getting waaay back there. THEN, to top it off, he started gagging and I truly believe he was doing this on purpose. I’ve been in the city for 5 months and this ride home was the worst I’ve experienced so far. Let me tell you, 5 minutes on the bus with someone like that will haunt you forever.
