Layoffs Pending — Drivers Exempt?

Muni rider Allan offers the following astute observation:

With service cuts and layoffs pending for MTA personnel, it’s good to know that the drivers are exempt. Apparently they are riding much better than we are and can’t afford the cuts.

Does that sign, behind, read “Operator of the Month”? I can’t make it out. If it does, maybe this has nothing to do with the MTA . . ..

It’s no joking matter for anyone at anytime to get laid off (sp?). I think it’s just tragic that it’s happening right before Christmas and Thanksgiving. I have to admit that that photo is pretty amazing though. Unfortunately, the lay offs will always be the newest drivers who have just weathered a transition to a new job, maybe they are just starting out in life, with a new starter house, or at least with a family with young children….and not the veteran of many years who amassed enough money to buy that car or amassed enough experience and skills to achieve that parking spot.

I find it amusing that you actually think anyone at MUNI has amassed experience or skills.

Layoffs almost always start at the bottom in terms of seniority.

I wonder if MUNI is laying off any fare inspectors?

I can’t belive MTA is laying of parking officers, I think is just a game to make them writte more tickets. this is very wrong. may be they should let go some of the new directors they just hire and do not justify their salaries at MTA
