How not to evade fares

I’m not sure there’s an etiquette rule for fare evasion, but this probably isn’t it:

08:29 pm Mission/Geneva Battery
Officer Pereira and Officer Fung were conducting a Muni bus inspection when
they were told by the driver that a man had spit in his face because the
driver would not give him a free ride. The driver was able to point out the
suspect on the street, whom the officers then cited for battery. Case number
091235935.

.. from the SFPD Ingleside station chief’s daily report, as usual.

I always cough on my transfers just in case someone decides to inspect my fare.

How dare you make ME pay! How DARE you! I know in an ideal world we would not be required to pay for anything, but we live in a system where we pay for goods and services that we cannot perform ourselves. So if you want a free ride, please get on a bicycle and ride to where you need to go. Or purchase a vehicle and pay for cost of upkeep etc. When you need a sweater, either find scraps of cloth on the street or plant a sweater tree and and make your own if you do not have cash or barter. Or there is great thing called money that we can use as an exchange to move through the world a lot faster. It’s brilliant! Make a little, spend a little. Good luck people!

ugh, I wish more police would catch people in the act like this. I see people behaving like wild animals on muni every week, whether it’s crazy folks harassing passengers, drunk people causing a scene, folks getting into screaming matches over who knows, thieves, or people like this guy. never have i witnessed anyone getting apprehended, so stories like this are nice to hear.
