On the next episode of 22-Fillmore …

Each bus and subway line in San Francisco should have its own soap opera. Last night I watched/participated in ’22 Fillmore’, my favorite and least favorite telenovela of them all.

Special guests included:
-The driver who didn’t want to let a wheelchair passenger on board because the bus was already super crowded.
-The man who orchestrated a mass move to the back of the bus to show the driver we could, and would, make room for her.
-The wheelchair passenger herself.
-A trio of English and French tourists talking about how they felt they were crammed into a rabbit hutch, and their ensuing discussion about eating rabbit.
-The woman with a newborn baby and a huge, HUGE stroller/baby seat combo who struggled to fit everything into the seat next to her.
-The teens shouting, “just go, already,” as we waited at Duboce and Church.
-The over-groceried folks getting on by Safeway.
-The quiet woman who always wears sunglasses, even when it’s dark out.
-Me.
-The requisite stepwell-standers.
-Eugenia from Muni Diaries!

We finally got to my stop and a whole crowd of us poured out. Across the street a man and a woman were yelling and threatening each other in the bus stop, and I really thought they were going to kill each other (and everyone else waiting for an outbound 22). I guess they were just rehearsing for the next episode of 22-Fillmore.

22-Fillmore, that most real of reality television.

30-stockton: starring… teenagers from Galileo on their way to blow their allowance at the Metreon, Chinese grandmothers bragging about the low price of their produce purchases, young stock traders from the Marina plugged into i-things. nervous suburban Peninsula travelers on their way to CalTrain, French tourists asking if each stop is “Sheen-a-TON”… bored but stylish retail workers on their way to Macy’s and Bloomingdale shifts…

Maybe Chuck Prophet needs to add another verse or 3?

I love running into people! Well ok there are many two people in my life that I would not want to run into, but that’s a story for another day (or never). That was some ride, Rachel. That fight across the street when we got off the bus was crazy!

Wasn’t it? Made the whole thing even stranger. Glad we made it through…

Vaguely reminiscent of my experience this morning when the bus driver on the 6 would not let on a disabled passenger in a wheelchair. I believe it was because the disabled man was asking if he could get on without paying fare. Despite his plea, “come on chinaman, you’re supposed to serve the public!!!,” the asian driver would not let him on the bus.

A ragtag team if ever there was one. Great visuals.
