2010 Bay to Breakers, Muni style

Burrito Justice posted this photo over at Mission Mission this morning. We, of course, applaud any and all Muni costumery. So if you wore or took pictures of any other Muni homages at yesterday’s crosstown footrace, send ‘em in: muni.diaries.sf@gmail.com

Here’s the 26 hanging out with the 4, a discontinued line that I miss dearly:

We also spotted other great Bay to Breakers fineries on and around Muni yesterday:

OK, I really liked the 26 hanging with the 4. (Query – aren’t they both dead lines?)

And I don’t want to be all grumbly and mean-old-man about this (because I am objectively not old and subjectively not mean) but I saw all of the buses roaming around yesterday and had one thought – who’s paying for all of this? I know that the fares for the shuttles was high this year ($10) Maybe the fare increases cover the cost. But if they didn’t, and some sponsor (ING?) is not fronting the overtime and just regular-old-time for the shuttle buses, I’m almost of a mind that MUNI shouldn’t be supporting these things in these times. Let me expand a bit.

Right now, we’re getting to the point where the basics – getting SF kids and people back and forth to schools and jobs – are not well done on a daily basis. (And that’s putting it mildly.) Some of the folks using MUNI yesterday are MUNI hobbyists. I’m guessing that if MUNI announced that they weren’t able to do the shuttle runs back to civilization yesterday, there would have been a (justifiable) outcry among people who don’t use MUNI every day but like the idea that it’s there for rare events (like b2b) when they need it.

    Too grumpy?

JC – yes they are both dead lines hanging out in … Muni afterlife? Whoa this is getting too philosophical for me.

I will attempt to find out about your funding question.

By the way, can one be young and at least occasionally grumbly? I’d like to think that’s ok.
