Just another day on Muni 07.31.11
Spotted by @Hedonia hours before Sunday’s Up Your Alley fair on Dore Alley.
Think the guy reading the paper is with them? Amazing.
Weekend Photos: Inside Looking Out 07.29.11

And if you’re a youngster riding Muni, don’t forget that, starting in August, your Youth Fast Pass will be on a Clipper card. No more paper passes for you. You still get summers off, though, so stop complaining.
Also, around this time every year, the San Francisco Bay Guardian announces the winners of its editors and readers choice Best of the Bay awards. We lobbied you to vote Muni Diaries best local blog, and we thank you for your votes. Alas, we didn’t make the cut. Our friends at SFist did win best local blog 2011, deservingly, and we congratulate them.
Here are some fun things going on this weekend around town:
- The “Mission United” party at Public Works, from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. (you read that right). Proceeds to benefit SFSmiles & the Homeless Prenantal Program and Dolores Street Community Services. Take the 12-Folsom, 14-Mission, or 49-Van Ness.
- As SF Appeal reminds us, Critical Mass is tonight. Love it or not, the massive all-over-SF-once-a-month bike ride is on.
- On Saturday, go see David and Amy Sedaris’ “The Book of Liz” at the Gough Street Playhouse. 1-California, California cable car, 2-Clement, 3-Jackson, 19-Polk, 47-Van Ness, 49-Van Ness.
Check the SFMTA’s weekend transit and traffic advisories, and you’ll no longer be able to say they didn’t tell ya.
Enjoy these photos and your weekend!

Muni Time Capsule: Never built elevated lines above Market St. sidewalks 07.29.11
Over on Muni Time Capsule today, we bring you Eric Fischer’s 1937 image of a proposed (but dead in the water?) elevated bus structure above the sidewalks on Market Street.
Muni/BART ‘Best’ Place to Meet Singles 07.29.11

Thousands of Craigslist Missed Connections ads on Muni and pickup artist bootcamp can’t be wrong, right?
Making the moves on someone on Muni sounds awkward to me, but we know at least a few riders who met a cutie on the bus: Eric, Wil, and this mysterious note writer. What do you think? Should we get off OkCupid and start riding Muni more?

We love when everyday citizens take matters into their own hands. We also love it when people take photos and share them on the internet.

Check out other mysterious Muni graffiti making its way to our inbox.

Muni streetcar vs. cop car 07.28.11
Ever wondered what would happen if an ambulance crashed into a garbage truck? A fire truck into a city bus?
D shares this peculiar story of kiss-and-tell involving a Muni vehicle.
Another F line operator told me that the squad car was too close to the tracks while the F-Market operator should’ve waited for the squad car to move, so in her opinion both parties were at fault.
She also said that when two city agency vehicles collide, things can get pretty bad.
How fair of that second F-Market operator, no?
‘Handicapped’ rider etiquette 07.27.11

From Muni rider and Giftly Marketing Director Nish:
Sometimes, the unlikeliest of seat angels (on a 14-Mission, no less), will back you up when no one else will.
A reminder to be kind to your “handicapped” rider pals, dawgs.
The J-Church ‘Got Meat’ 07.27.11
Muni rider Jazmin says, “July 7, 2011, the J line had free raw meat up for grabs.”
Not sure about you, but I wouldn’t dare “grab” that hunk of steak.
Other gross things that’ve appeared on Muni Diaries:
Matching condom and cough drops
Rats
Fingernail clipping, ad infinitum
A brownie
