Muni Art Diary: Mural at 21st and Mission   04.26.12

This beaut adorns a mural at 21st Street and Mission. I love how generic but unmistakable it is.

Here’s a wider view for some context.

Funny, because it kinda looks like the LRV is emerging from West Portal, though that’s nowhere nearby. And correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve never seen people playing music on streets out there.

Also, it is still strange not hearing and seeing buses on Mission Street.

Other murals with Muni appearances: the dearly departed 15 bus52-Excelsiora Muni bus in Clarion Alley; and a Sirron Norris gray Muni bus

Urban Camo Man Takes Muni   04.24.12

Yesterday was a rough one on Muni. A man whose leg was cut off in a collision with Muni at Civic Center later died from injuries. A system shutdown ensued, and delays rippled throughout the day.

On the other hand, there was this guy and his four-leggers. As @girlinchucks says, “So, um, there is a man on the F Market dressed up like his dogs. What an eff’d up day for Muni. Just sayin’.”

Muni Back to the Future   04.22.12

A few observant citizens this weekend noticed that Muni was running this bus from a bygone era on Saturday. Were you lucky enough to see it?

Weekend Photos: Youth in Revolt   04.13.12

This young man has sass by the gallon. I can only imagine what he’s up to. He would make a perfect match in tomorrow night’s “Eggs, Beer, and Bouncy Boxing” at Z Space. Yes, that’s boxing in a bouncy castle. Plus free beer.

Fun thing to do this weekend:
Brokeass Stuart is hosting a night of bouncy castle boxing, free beer and hot dogs, and an “adult Easter egg hunt” tomorrow night. All you have to do is RSVP to get your bouncing boxing and beer-drinking on, hopefully maybe not at the same time.

So, what happened on your commute this week? If you’ve got a story to share, remember that it can end up on a bus ad in our 100 Days, 100 Muni Stories project! So drop us a line and be a part of documenting life in San Francisco.

Enjoy these photos and your weekend!

In Which the Music of the Fillmore Pervades Muni   04.13.12

Rider Michael C. shared this gem. “Here’s something I had not yet glimpsed in my 15 years in San Francisco: A dreadlocked Mark Twain playing a FLUTE CANE…”

San Francisco and Muni: The gifts that keep giving …

Michael is also the author of the “People You Might Know on Facebook,” Muni Edition.

What did you see on Muni today?

Update
This gentleman is Hapi Light, who also has a TV show, according to commenters Jai and RLM. Thanks for the tip!

The Muni Sartorialist   04.12.12

This finely dressed gentleman has my respect: cream fur collar, pinstripe blazer, white trousers (!), sharp spectator shoes, and is that a tie pin I see?

amkilduff on Instagram snapped the photo of this man and noted:

He hardly said a thing. Rode from Japantown to the Mission barely suppressing the urge to relight that cigarette.

Muni Skull Antenna   04.12.12

Stated plainly, @KdotCdot says, “The thing about SF is that when you see someone wearing a tinfoil hat on Muni, they might be doing so without irony.”

Also, is the hat on dude’s lap a substitute, or is it worn over the Reynolds wrap?

Jawa on Muni Wants Your Droids   04.04.12

Aren’t you a little tall for a Jawa?

Via @brhau. Of course, this isn’t the first Star Wars character to be spotted on the slowest-moving vehicles in the galaxy. Who can forget the Ewok or Obi-Wan?
