You could call it a cowcatcher, but it’s proper name is an Eclipse fender (after its maker). The purpose is to catch unwary pedestrians and push them out of harm’s way. Evert old-style streetcar had two, one for each end. It was the conductor’s job to fold up the fender after the car changed ends. Then scofflaws could use it to ride free if unnoticed by sitting on top of the folded fender.

all i have heard so far is that since it was the only vehicle left in the Mint Yard, they didn’t want it to be an eyesore or possibly a homeless encampment so that’s why they moved to their Metro Yard
