The good folks at the SFMTA Photo Archive are still busy opening up the vaults. To honor Muni’s centennial, the archives have made available 57 posters with amazing historic photos. Check them out here.

Just to whet your appetite, the caption on the photo above reads: “Trolley Coaches Outside of Seals Baseball Stadium at 16th & Bryant Sts; SF Giants vs. Philadelphia | April 29, 1958”

Jaw, drop.

That was probably one of the last times that people could ride a trolley bus to a ball game.

Actually the Giants played there until Sept. 20, 1959. And the the 30 and 45 trolley buses run to AT&T Park these days. And that’s just baseball. And just major league.
You could take the 6, 7 or 33 trolleybus to the big, old Kezar Stadium to watch the 49ers play until Jan. 3, 1971.
And as for basketball, Wikipedia says: “The Warriors played most of their home games at the Cow Palace in Daly City (the facility lies just south of the San Francisco border) from 1962–64 and the San Francisco Civic Auditorium from 1964–66.” Civic Auditorium was served by the 5, 6, 7, and 8 trolley buses.
And then there’s college and high school ball games in various sports.
