Plan accordingly: Muni sickout today

SFGate reports that Muni workers have gone through with a rumored sickout this morning. From SFGate:

A sickout by Muni workers is disrupting service Monday morning, and commuters are being told to use alternate means of transportation.

The action follows a vote on a proposed budget with recommendations from SFMTA that didn’t sit well with the Muni workers’ union More from SFGate:

Under the proposal, the MTA says Muni workers would get 11.25 percent in raises over two years, but they would pick up a 7.5 percent pension payment now paid by the MTA.

[…]Muni workers, like all San Francisco city employees, are prohibited from striking. Under Proposition G, approved by city voters in 2010, if union members reject the proposed contract, it goes to an arbitrator who cannot rule against Muni management’s proposals unless the union can prove that its interests outweigh “the public interest in efficient and reliable transit.”

Thus the sickout this morning. SFGate says that, according to SFMTA officials, “BART is honoring Muni fare in San Francisco and Daly City.”

HOPE EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT THE SECOND HIGHEST PAID TRANSIT WORKERS IN THE UNITED STATES (SF MUNI) ARE STILL NOT SATISFIED WITH MAKING OVER $60K A YEAR. THATS RIGHT THEY MAKE ON AVERAGE MUCH MORE THAN THE TYPICAL SF RESIDENT AND MAKE ABOUT TWICE AS MUCH AS ME (I AM A 20 YEAR RESIDENT OF SF AND COUNTING). DO NOT SUCCUMB TO THESE UNION THUGS’ DEMANDS. I SAY WE EITHER FIRE THEM ALL OR CUT THEIR PAY IN HALF. THIS BEHAVIOR SHOULD NOT BE REWARDED, IT SHOULD BE PUNISHED! 800,000 COMMUTERS SHOULDN’T HAVE TO SUFFER BECAUSE OF THESE PATHETIC SCUMBAG’S LITTLE TEMPER TANTRUM ALL BECAUSE THEY AREN’T SATISFIED WITH BEING THE SECOND HIGHEST PAID TRANSIT WORKERS. “WAH WAH WAH WE CANT MAKE A LIVING WAGE” SHUT THE F*** UP! I MAKE HALF WHAT THESE SCUMBAGS MAKE AND IVE MANAGED TO AFFORD A LIVING HERE FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS! ALL OF IT IS BS! YOU HAVE TO BE BATSH** CRAZY TO BUY THE IDEA THAT THESE MUNI EMPLOYEES ARENT MAKING ENOUGH! THESE ARE JUST THUGS, PARASITES TRYING TO SQUEEZE EVEN MORE LIFEBLOOD OUT OF US HONEST, HARDWORKING FOLKS WHO ARE BARELY GETTING BY WHILE THEY MAKE DOUBLE OUR INCOME AND STILL COMPLAIN ABOUT IT! SHAMELESS SCUMBAGS ALL OF THEM!

It could be that they’re dissatisfied because it takes 75K to live in San Francisco and they’re only making 60K. (Ah, but I bet you’d rather have some kid from Fairfield or Vacaville who rises well before dawn to make minimum wage driving for your idea of Muni).

Really? I don’t buy that. I make about 3/4 of $75, and I contribute to my pension. Last I checked, I’m doing just fine in SF. I don’t even make $60K. I also work near a Muni lot, and see the cars that many of the operators drive. Many high-end. Just, come on.

REALLY? THAT’S FUNNY DEXTER, BECAUSE I ONLY MAKE ABOUT $15 PER HOUR, WORKING FULL TIME (LESS THAN 40K A YEAR) AND IVE MANAGED TO AFFORD TO LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO WITHOUT SECTION 8, RENT CONTROL OR ANY OTHER FORM OF ASSISTANCE FOR 20 YEARS. HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT IF YOU HAVE TO MAKE OVER 75K TO LIVE IN SF? HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THE COUNTLESS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SF RESIDENTS MAKING BARELY EVEN A THIRD OF THAT INCOME AND YET SOMEHOW MANAGE TO AFFORD TO LIVE HERE REGARDLESS? LET ME CLUE YOU IN ON SOMETHING DEXTER, THAT’S BECAUSE YOUR STATEMENT ABOUT SOMEONE NEEDING A 75K INCOME TO LIVE IN SF IS COMPLETE BOLOGNA.

That is one published statement in a daily newspaper. As the saying goes, “Your mileage may vary.” So you can get by on less, good for you! But stop yelling (ALL CAPS). I know you’re annoyed, but it’s unnecessary to continually show it.

Fire the muni workers who call in sick. This is bullsht.

  • I just know my commute last night was my worst Muni commute ever, and I dread repeating it tonight.
Thanks to the drivers who showed up yesterday and today and please, please let’s not do this again tomorrow…

(oh, and I don’t make $32 an hour and I also contribute to my 401k with no complaints…)

Sort of sad that the pols gave them money that they did not have and now want some of it paid back but in truth many people would take aout a pension loan that gave them great retirement and not even complain if they had to pay the money back with todays dollar which is worth a lot less than the ones they got for free.
