Are you putting your various costumes back in the storage closet? Not so fast. This weekend’s activities promise more opportunities to dress up, especially if you own anything Star Trek related or darkly Victorian.

Check out these three fun things to do this weekend.

  • Sci-Crawl. The first ever science crawl in the Mission encourages you to bring your nerd badge of honor out in force. Highlights include nerd speed dating at the Make-Out Room, a talk about the greatest science tattoos ever photographed, and opportunity to learn about the science behind chocolate and beer. Check the official Sci-Crawl site for details. Friday, Nov. 4, 6 p.m. in the Mission.
  • Shadowdance. A “darkly intense, heart-pounding journey into the silhouette of night.” Belly dancing, throat singing, industrial performance art, puppet shows, circus arts, angle grinding, and more that you just have to see for yourself. Featuring world-renown fusion belly dancers Rachel Brice and Ariellah. Saturday, Nov. 5, 8 p.m. Oakland Metro Opera House. 630 3rd Street, Oakland. Take BART there: 12th Street Station.
  • Dub Mission. The Elbo Room’s Sunday dub parties are legendary, and if you haven’t been to Dub Mission yet, DJ Sep and J Boogie’s got you covered this week. Sunday, Nov. 5, 9 p.m. Elbo Room. 647 Valencia Street. Take Muni there: 14, 33, 47, 49. BART: 16th Street station.

Enjoy these photos and your weekend!

Muni strikes pedestrian, who suffers serious head injury (update)

Update (3:21 p.m.): Sad news, you guys. The victim, whose name hasn’t been released, has taken a turn for the worse. SFGate reports that her condition has gone from serious to critical.

Original post: An M-Ocean View struck a pedestrian at 19th Avenue and Junipero Serra yesterday evening. According to Bay City News (via SF Appeal):

The 19-year-old pedestrian was struck by a Muni vehicle on the M-Ocean View line. She suffered head trauma and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where she was in serious but stable condition as of this morning, according to police.

It’s unclear whether the vehicle was an M-Ocean View light-rail or shuttle bus; SF Weekly reports that it was a bus, while SF Appeal says it was an LRV. We’ll update as we learn more about the incident.

Impromptu U2 Medley Aboard the 49-Van Ness

Muni rider Mozart sent us this audio snippet from his ride home aboard the 49-Van Ness. Warning: The clip devolves for a bit into completely offensive, inappropriate ranting, so FYI and throw on some headphones if you’re at work. The clip was just very San Francisco in many different ways, for better or worse.

I thought it might be Omer, the infamous Mission District sidewalk “musician.” After seeing a photo of Omer, Mozart thought it could be him. What do you think? I’ve never seen Omer on Muni, but it seems like he’d draw a lot of attention on it.

We’re mere days away from casting our votes for the next mayor of San Francisco. We had a hunch that matters having to do with Muni might possibly, hypothetically, maybe be near and dear to your heart. And so we point you to our two-part series in which we asked candidates about their experiences with Muni — whether it, like, shows up for them and their cool stories as regular riders — plus their ideas for fixing the beleaguered transit agency.

How Will the SF Mayoral Candidates Fix Muni?

For more mayor+Muni information, check out SF Public Press’s series of interviews with candidates. And here’s Streetsblog SF’s post on what the next SF mayor will do for Muni.

To the polls!
