But the U.S. News and World Report ranking has San Francisco just above Los Angeles! That’s terrible and depressing.
The whole enchilada:
1. Portland, OR
2. Salt Lake City
3. New York
4. Boston
5. Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN
6. San Francisco
7. Los Angeles
8. Honolulu
9 (tie). Denver
9 (tie). Austin

Yeah, having sampled both LA and Honolulu transit, being just above those two doesn’t say a whole lot to me. Not to pick on Honolulu, it wasn’t awful but it didn’t strike me as a system which was good enough to get people with choices out of their cars.

Like many of US News and World Report’s rankings, this one does not past the smell test. Any top-10 ranking of transit systems that doesn’t include DC, Chicago, or Philly is simply not credible… obviously these three aren’t perfect, but each of these cities’ agencies carry more than Denver, Minneapolis, Austin, Honolulu, and Salt Lake City combined…

Agreed: surprised DC was not on the list. Chicago too.
