To answer this question:

Yes. A 38-Geary caught fire in the Outer Richmond almost exactly a week ago. The 38-Geary (and its zippy express sibs) are a great many things (drunk tank, most recently) but flammable wasn’t on the list until now.

What’s up with that? SFGate reports:

The latest fire started around 3:15 p.m. on an outbound bus at Geary Boulevard and 28th Avenue, said Paul Rose, a spokesman for the Municipal Transportation Agency.

“The operator noticed smoke in the engine compartment, pulled over to the side and got passengers off the vehicle,” Rose said.

No one was injured, and Rose did not know how many passengers were on the bus at the time.

The bus that caught on fire last week was idling when its engine caught on fire. The SF Fire Department hasn’t determined the cause for the latest fire, SFGate reports.
