Muni Diaries Live: Full Lineup Announced!
Twice a year, we bring Muni Diaries to life at the Elbo Room. There, you can hear true, hilarious tales from everyday riders like yourself. For our upcoming show on April 15, we’re bringing back our popular Muni Haiku Battle: a 5-7-5 syllabic showdown featuring our reigning champion, Baruch Porras-Hernandez. Watch him defend his crown (or rather, glorious headband) with these other stellar storytellers. Tickets are on sale now, so grab a ticket today and put us in your calendar of fun.

Baruch Porras-Hernandez is a writer, performer, host, storyteller, and regular KQED community-events host based in San Francisco. He has performed in L.A., Washington, D.C., NYC, Canada, and all over California, and his writing, which has been published in numerous anthologies, has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. He is a Lambda Literary Fellow in Poetry, Lambda Literary Fellow in Playwriting, and regularly organizes poetry shows in the Bay Area. He is currently the curator and head organizer for The San Francisco Queer Open Mic and is Program Director for Donde Esta Mi Gente. He was born in Toluca, Mexico and grew up in Albany, CA.
Dixie De La Tour is the founder of Bawdy Storytelling (“The Moth for Pervs,” per LA Weekly), America’s Original Sex+Storytelling series featuring Real People & Rockstars sharing their bona fide sexual exploits, live onstage. This award-winning performance series is currently monthly in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and expanding to new cities every day. Storytellers are an eclectic mix of authors, sex educators, poets, comedians, and actors — along with real people just like you who submitted their stories online and were chosen for their panache and sense of (mis)adventure.
Irene Tu is a San Francisco-based stand-up comedian, writer, and actor. In 2016, she was named one of the “Bay Area’s 11 Best Stand Up Comedians” by the SFist and one of 20 “Women to Watch” by KQED. She has been featured in SF Sketchfest, Limestone Comedy Festival, RIOT LA, Seeso, and Viceland. Irene hosts several popular shows in the Bay Area: Man Haters, Hysteria, The Mission Position, Laugh Function, and Millennials Ruin Everything (they do). You can follow her @irene_tu. irenetu.com
J. W. Friedman is the founder of “I Don’t Even Own a Television,” a podcast about bad books. Every two weeks, he and host Chris Collision get together to talk about a book you almost certainly should not read. Past guests have included Jeb “@mobute” Lund, Mara Wilson, Mike Sacco, Rachel Millman, and many others. A humorist and musician from San Francisco, California, J is into hardcore, rap music, movies, and books about indescribable eldritch horrors and professional wrestling. J also released the concept album, Beebee on the Bus, an album all about the psychology of public transit.
Vivian Ho has worked for the San Francisco Chronicle since 2011, covering criminal justice and breaking news. She reported on the Mario Woods shooting, the San Francisco Police Department, officer-involved shootings, how law enforcement handles mentally ill subjects, police brutality, race, the Black Lives Matter demonstrations, and the Occupy movement, as well as on homicides, criminal street gangs, sexual assaults, wildfires, and human trafficking. Before she joined The Chronicle, Vivian reported for the Boston Globe and the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. Vivian spent most of her life in the frozen tundra that is New England and has a hard time understanding weather stories in California.
