Four more days! Muni Diaries Live is Saturday, y’all.

Twice a year, like parents gone wild, Muni Diaries leaves its forever-LOL social channels and website to fend for itself for a few hours so we can hit the bar: the Elbo Room, to be exact.

We have a really great reason to do it, too: bringing IRL storytelling to the Muni-riding masses. Muni Diaries Live is where we can all laugh, cry, and commiserate over the daily sensory overload that is San Francisco’s colorful public-transit system.

We are swooning over our stellar lineup. At our recent rehearsal, we shed tears of joy, of WTF OMG, and of poignancy — all fantastic signs of a fabulous show to come. Our performers run the gamut of “Hella SF”: from a rising star in drag, to bastions of print media, to self-proclaimed political geeks (just in time for Election Day!), they’re all bringing it on Saturday. And by “it,” I mean cool stories and unique perspectives on our fair city.

So, who’s in?

Future you will thank planning-ahead you for getting tickets ahead of time! They’re available now on Eventbrite, so get ’em while they’re hot.

See the best of Muni Diaries live on stage on Nov. 5

You’ve seen Muni bingo, Muni haiku, a one-woman band, a puppet show, and stellar storytellers on stage … What else do we have in store for you at the next Muni Diaries Live? You’ll have to come party with us at the Elbo Room on Nov. 5 to find out! The full lineup is here, and it’s gonna be a good one.

For this show, we are adding something a little different: when you buy a ticket, you can also give to Food Runners, the San Francisco non-profit organization that’s currently delivering over 15 tons of food a week that would otherwise be thrown away. Food Runners picks up excess food from businesses and delivers it to agencies feeding the hungry.

Next Wednesday, Revel in Muni Nerdery at Nerd Nite!

old fast passes sfpl oct

Hey nerds! And I mean that in the best, most complimentary, you’re-my-people way: next Wednesday’s Nerd Nite features none other than transit reporter (and upcoming Muni Diaries Live storyteller) Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez, who will take you on an express ride through the colorful history of the Fast Pass. Did you know that Harvey Milk was a champion of the Fast Pass?

If you haven’t been to Nerd Nite, it’s an “informal gathering at which nerds get together for nerdery of all sorts (well, mostly presentations and drinking). Nerds and non-nerds alike gather to meet, drink and learn something new.” It’s pretty much the best nerd gathering I can think of.

This month’s show also features “Love Unhinged: King Pedro & the Corpse Bride of Portugal” by Annetta Black, and “Through the New Looking Glass: Reality Capture from the Camera Obscura to 3D Scanning, VR and AR” by Scott Page.

Come meet us at the Rickshaw next Wednesday so we can be proper nerds together.

Muni Diaries Live is back on Nov. 5!

muni-diaries-live-elbo-room-2014

Our favorite evening of the year is back, when riders pack the Elbo Room for a little camaraderie about San Francisco life. Tickets are on sale now, so grab yours soon!

Riding the bus with a black crow on your shoulder? Eating a pint of ice cream with the butt end of a lighter on the N-Judah? Exchanging the fine points of making a perfect lumpia with your bus driver’s mom? These are just a few of the everyday delights/weirdnesses that actually happen on Muni. Come celebrate all the hilarity that can happen on public transit between Point A and Point B.

What happens when you pack the Elbo Room with Muni riders who love nothing more than a good story? Amazing tales, a new spin on bingo, and an only-in-San Francisco burlesque act that put old paper Fast Passes to very good use. At our 15th show, we were still floored by the enthusiasm and support of everyone who came to Muni Diaries Live, especially our storytellers who really dug deep into their San Francisco experience to share stories that are both funny and vulnerable, and serve as excellent reminders of why public transit is an important part of any urban existence.

We kicked off the show with Muni Diaries Live alum Jesse James, whose friends are constantly amazed at his endless supply of Muni tales.
