This Saturday: Muni Burlesque, Muni Bingo, and Only-in-SF stories!

if you want it

Where can you find a club full of people who love San Francisco as much as you do, aren’t too snooty to ride the bus, and will cheer at the mention of “Back Door!”? You’ll find good company at Muni Diaries Live this Saturday, where you can raise a glass with your fellow commuters and toast to the hilarity of riding Muni (and BART, too!).

We’ve got a stellar lineup of performers with all the funny, sweet, and sometimes totally WTF stories that happen on Muni and BART. And for this show, we have the lovely Alexa Von Kickinface, co-host of San Francisco’s infamous and beloved monthly burlesque show—Hubba Hubba Revue! Muni plus burlesque? You’ll have to see it for yourself.

Oh, and dust off your bingo daubers! For the first time, we’re playing Muni Bingo, and you can win free drinks at the Elbo Room bar! My hands are currently covered with glue from renaming all 75 bingo balls to Muni lines, so make it all worthwhile and come play Muni bingo with us! There are only a handful of tickets left in advanced sales, so get your tickets soon!

Live at the Elbo Room: Muni Stories and Muni Bingo!

madrigal muni diaries live

Anything can happen on Muni, but would you ever have imagined a Muni-themed madrigal choir, a hip-hop group whose entire album is about Muni, or Muni riders in a Rice-a-Roni singalong? Me neither, and yet these are just a few of the only-in-San Francisco hilarious things that have really happened at Muni Diaries Live over the years. We’re a short few weeks away from our spring Muni Diaries Live show, as always with an excellent lineup.

For this event, we’ve got a little something for the hipster (or grandma) in you: a Muni bingo game! Get your bingo daubers ready to win great prizes, booze or otherwise!

Grab your tickets here, and we’ll see you soon!

7 reasons you should go to Muni Diaries Live

driver_doug_MDL13

  1. Gabe Armstrong. He’s the audio engineering at the Elbo Room and has seen all the shenanigans backstage. Tonight he’ll step out of the sound booth to tell his own story.
  2. Cara Tramontano. She’s our Twitter BFF with some of the most creative Muni tweets ever. Imagine what she can do with more words.
  3. Kristee Ono. Ok. This woman ate 100 burritos in 100 days. If she’s not your San Francisco hero, I don’t even know.
  4. Satellite High. An entire hip hop album about Muni? Dreams do come true.
  5. Jerry Lee Abrams. He’s produced shows for Peaches Christ and designed lighting for a very famous wedding. We can only imagine what he’s seen.
  6. Driver Doug. Seventeen years of watching Muni riders act the fool, or sometimes acting right. He’s back with more behind the scenes stories for us tonight.
  7. Reigning Muni Haiku champ Ronn Vigh and his challenger, writer and comedian Baruch Porras-Hernandez. The battle is on: who makes better 5-7-5 magic?

Need we say more? Okay, here’s more: Get your advanced tickets to Muni Diaries Live because we have only a limited number of tickets to sell at the door.

What do Muni drivers really think of you? Find out at Muni Diaries Live!

Every day, you help us document a slice of San Francisco life here on Muni Diaries. And twice a year, we bring your stories live to the stage. Come celebrate all the funny, sweet, and weird things that happen in our city at Muni Diaries Live next Saturday, Oct. 10.

For this show, we’re welcoming back Driver Doug (above), who’ll tell you what Muni drivers really think of us. At the last show, he told us about secret hand signals, tricky fare boxes, and how a Muni driver can tell whether you’re really ready to get on the bus. Get ready for even more behind-the-scenes tales from the driver’s seat.

Doug will be joined by the rest of a great lineup: storytellers Cara Tramontano, Jerry Lee Abram, Kristee Ono, and Gabriel Armstrong. And you just cannot miss a Muni haiku face-off between Baruch Porras-Hernandez and reigning champion Ronn Vigh. Musical guest Satellite High wrote an entire rap album based on Muni stories—you can’t get more San Francisco than this.

Pro tip: Unless you really love standing in hella long lines, advance tickets are the way to go.
