Take THAT, Muni phone thief!

MissionMission’s Helen Tseng wrote about her scary experience getting mugged on Muni. She ran after the suspect to get her phone back, in what followed to be an even more frightening experience. From Helen’s blog:
I was on my way to the Needles & Pens anniversary show, and BART was delayed due to that naked guy fiasco, so I hopped on a 14 and took my phone out of my pocket to let a friend know that I would be late. Then, as the bus pulled over to the 23rd and Mission stop, a scary man ripped my phone out of my hands and ran off the bus with it.

Maya Angelou drove a San Francisco streetcar, y’all!
Not only that: She claims she was the first black streetcar conductor in the city. And we have every reason to believe her.

“In an interview with Oprah, Angelou was just 16 years old and still in high school when she decided to pursue the position. The uniforms caught her eye and she soon went to apply for a job.
Though many women worked as streetcar conductors, at the time none of them were women of color. Angelou was denied an application, but that didn’t stop her from soldiering on. With her mother Vivian Baxter’s encouragement and suggestion, Angelou says she sat in SF’s transit office every day for two weeks. She would arrive earlier than the secretaries and wouldn’t leave until after they had gone for the day.”

SFMTA’s Update on Last Week’s Medical Emergency

Last week we posted a story by a rider who saw a medical emergency when the train was stopped in the tunnel. We asked SFMTA about the incident, and spokesperson Paul Rose explained that when this medical emergency happened, three other incidents were happening at the exact same time. Here’s what he told us.
Your Weekend Transit Advisory: Giants games, Treasure Island event
In store this lovely weekend (which can’t get started a moment too soon, amirite?), we have more Giants games, an SF Gaelic Athletic Association event on Treasure Island, and, well, whatever rad plans you have. Enjoy!
Baseball Game Traffic Reroutes
The San Francisco Giants will play three home games against Atlanta Braves beginning Friday through Sunday at AT&T Park.
· 7:15 p.m., Friday
· 1:05 p.m., Saturday
· 1:05 p.m., Sunday

Athletic Association Event
The San Francisco Gaelic Athletic Association event will take place at San Francisco Gaelic Fields on Treasure Island this Saturday and Sunday. This event will also take place next weekend, May 18 and 19.
Avenue “H” between 11th and 13th streets will be closed from 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m., each day, Saturday and Sunday, this weekend and next.
The 108 Treasure Island Muni route will be affected from 6:15 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, both weekends.
Overnight Closure for Construction
An overnight closure of northbound Highway 1 (Park Presidio Boulevard/Veterans Boulevard) at Lake Street will be required for Presidio Parkway construction each night, beginning midnight, Tuesday. This night closure is expected to last for three weeks with the following hours:
Mondays through Thursdays Midnight to 4 a.m.
Fridays through Saturdays 1 to 4 a.m.
During the closure, Muni routes 28 19th Avenue and 91 Owl will be affected.
