Muni inspires new U.S. Postal Service stamps?

Muni rider Charles passed this one along. SF resident Eli Noyes drew some stamps for the Postal Service’s “Go Green” stamp series.

Noyes says he let life in San Francisco inspire his work on the stamps. Naturally, there’s a stamp with a bus on it. Muni looks good in green, no?

Read about Noyes and the stamps at SFGate.

And yes, we see the irony of the Postal Service’s message, “Go green” with “by using dead-tree mail” implied. Still!

Transit Art: Can You Spot BART?

Can you spot pieces of Bay Area transit in this piece of mixed media art by reader Tofu St. John? You might remember him from “Project Art a Day.” His newest piece incorporates pieces of transit ephemera from public transportation systems across the country.

Here’s what he has to say about the new piece (available at Society6):

I love public transportation. When I travel to different cities I always seek out the adventure of public transportation. There is something magical about emerging from a subway station in a strange city for the first time. This new piece is made up of public transportation maps from around the world. From the San Francisco Bay Area’s Muni, AC Transit and BART to DC’s Metro, to London’s Underground and many more.

NYC Subway-Riding Goat Steals the Show

Photo: Allison Joyce for Reuters

You have go(a)t to be kidding me.

Appropriately, our friends at Tiny Rides sent us this New York City Subway-riding goat, Cocoa. Cocoa (!) loves people, and she can’t sleep at night unless owner and Joisey resident Cyrus Fakroddin is in eyeshot. In a Reuters photo shoot by Allison Joyce, Cocoa is doing everything from hanging in Central Park to catching the C train from Columbus Circle. What a polite-seeming passenger, no? Check out Cocoa’s adventures on Buzzfeed.

Muni has its share of cute animals on the bus, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen a goat. Unless you have? Send us any and all cute Muni cargo today.

Free Muni for Low-Income Kids Passes SFMTA Board

According to reports from Tuesday’s SFMTA board meeting, something like free Muni for kids has made it onto the budget for the next couple of years.

The board favored a free youth pass program for low-income students, but members weren’t convinced that expanding the proposal to include anyone under 17 would be worth the trade-offs in cuts to Muni maintenance that staff presented to the board — at least in this budget cycle.

The two-year budget must now be approved by the Board of Supervisors before going into effect. Read Streetsblog SF for more.
