On Nov. 8, we’re celebrating San Francisco commuters (you!) by hosting another Muni Diaries Live at the Elbo Room. Between now and the show, send us your “Only on Muni” moments via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or this website, and we’ll pick a winner for one pair of Muni Diaries Live front-row reserve tickets.

Muni Haiku Battle Showdown this Saturday!

This Saturday marks the return of our Muni haiku battle between reigning champion Jesse James and first-time challenger Ed Casey of @BARTDiaries. Will Ed’s 17 syllables include the material from naked twerking on BART? We can only hope.

Here’s a video from the last Muni haiku battle, where two-time champion James Nestor battled Jesse in a very close fight.

It’s time to pack the Elbo Room and celebrate everything unexpected that can happen on transit from point A to point B! We’ve got the full lineup for the April 5 Muni Diaries Live, and it’s a really, really good one. Have you gotten your tickets yet?

Our storytellers:

Peter Hartlaub, pop culture critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, writes entertainment features, movie reviews, and a lot of Bay Area nostalgia. He is also the editor/founder of The Big Event blog on SFGate.com. Hartlaub grew up in Burlingame, where he was a Chronicle paperboy and dedicated SamTrans rider. His favorite bus-themed movie is Speed. His favorite bus in popular culture is The Catbus from “My Neighbor Totoro.” His favorite Muni line is the 77X-Candlestick Express. Muni Haiku Battle III this Saturday!

The Muni Haiku Battle Arena will be resurrected this Saturday at Muni Diaries Live. Are you ready? In every battle, we pit poet against poet in a 17-syllable face-off. Our reigning champion is writer James Nestor, whose wit and impeccable style have won him two handmade trophies. Above, you’ll see James in a very close battle against sex advice columnist Anna Pulley.

The Muni Haiku Battle is modeled after the dirty haiku battles at Oakland’s Tourettes Without Regrets, the Bay’s must-see spoken-word show hosted by Jamie DeWolf. DeWolf refereed that very first battle at Lit Crawl 2012. For this Saturday, we enlisted audience favorite storyteller Jesse James to take on the challenge of besting our reigning champion. Will Jesse be the one to finally unseat James? Come and find out for yourself.

Where do the most unbelievably gross, heart-warming, funny, and weird stories happen in San Francisco? On Muni, of course. Save the date for the next Muni Diaries Live on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Elbo Room! For our tenth show, you’ll hear tales from comedian Nato Green and filmmaker H.P. Mendoza, and culture blogger and Bay Arean extraordinaire Beth Spotswood. And you’ll find out: who will finally beat the current Muni Haiku champion, James Nestor?

We’re also giving away a gift certificate to Tony’s Pizza Napoletana to one lucky audience storyteller, so get your stories ready!
