What’s the most awkward thing you’ve carried on Muni?

Muni Diaries reader Casey reported the latest awkward strange cargo that someone took on Muni because that’s how you get around town:

When you have to take a streetcar to transport a spare tire to the nearest gas station! Thank goodness the train driver was kind enough to drop her off near the gas station.

Aw.

Whether it’s a giant bubble wrap, a full-size mattress, or Saint Jude himself, our strange cargo report has you covered. Tag us on Instagram #munidiaries to submit your own report!

BART’s new mobile platform

New features are coming to BART all the time, and rider @ellingson saw one just the other day. And, er, they’re still ironing a few things out*.

In case you know this gentleman, please do let him know that an ironing board is far from the weirdest item seen on BART or Muni! At least he hasn’t needed to transport a giant roll of bubble wrap, a harp, or a mattress, for that matter.
More strange cargo on Muni this way.

Clickhole: ‘6 Words Of Encouragement That Helped Me Stop Bringing My Own Chair On The Bus’

chair_singer

Over on Clickhole today, there’s a post that struck a chord. From 6 Words Of Encouragement That Helped Me Stop Bringing My Own Chair On The Bus:

I used to bring my own folding chair on the bus, but now I don’t, and I owe it all to the good-hearted people who reassured me that it was okay not to bring a chair.

The thing that really stands out here is that, over the years, we’ve seen a fair number of chair-wielding Muni passengers.

To whit:

A new-new BART seat appears on trains

The question is: After reading the inspirational post on Clickhole, will you all be able to quit bringing your own chairs on Muni and BART? Only time will tell.

Brass section represented on Muni

tuba

Muni rider Ruth recently spotted this fine fellow and his travel companion, a tuba sousaphone. It made me want to gather all the people we’ve featured over the years on Muni with musical instruments (see below). They could have a show on a moving Muni vehicle. Or something.

Giant Bubble Wrap Dare on Muni

Muni rider Kim is on his way to bubble wrap all the things! I ran into Kim on the 38-R as he boarded the bus with his enormous cargo. He was nice enough to let me take a photo of his bubble wrap, but I didn’t ask him if I could pop a bubble because that would just be creepy, right?

Turns out someone else on the bus was equally impressed with Kim! Here’s a shot by Muni rider Lorena from the back of the bus.

Congrats, Kim, you have officially entered the Muni Diaries Strange Cargo Hall of Fame. You’re in good company with this styrofoam mountain and taxidermy deer head.
