Here’s to say: Thank you all for either cheering the team on, or for putting up with/incessantly bitching about the delays and crowded N-Judah and T-Third trains around AT&T Park all season. The Giants advanced to the next round of playoffs by beating the Atlanta Braves last night 3-2.
Delays and bitching will resume next Tuesday (most likely in the evening at the perfectly jack-ass time of 1:19 p.m., according the Giants Twitter feed).
Photo Diary: Me and Joe C. 10.12.10
Over in our Flickr group, Muni rider redletterdayzine implores us to do the following:
Please look closely. This bottle was empty, but it had (at one time) contained Jose Cuervo.
Trying to get this photo while the train was bumping & jostling made for some hilarity; the guy sitting across the aisle from us (nice jeans, buddy!) thought we were insane…
Sometimes it’s hard to find a trash receptacle in this town, right?

Seat-claiming: A new low on Muni? 10.11.10

Muni rider Remy saw something shocking on Muni recently:
What’s next? Calling shotgun? Spitting on the seat to claim it?
Her excuse was that she was pregnant. Well, turns out I am, too. Yet, I can guarantee she’s like this all the time.
What do you think? Should seat-claiming be allowed? If so, is it exclusively the domain of the pregnant, elderly, or disabled, or can we all partake?
An Ode to the Cable Cars 10.10.10
SF resident and cable car lover Carlos put together the homage up above.
A lot of us love San Francisco. Some of us find cool ways to express it.
Weekend Photos: Life on Muni Metro 10.08.10

Thanks for bearing with me as I emerge from a two-week-long acclimation. Eugenia was kind enough to let me put this post together, which should be the final step. Your Muni stories and photos help out tremendously in that regard. And while yesterday was one of those familiar low points for Muni (computer breakdowns causing systemwide Muni Metro delays, fatal collision between a bus and cyclist), it’s nice to know that … well, um, hey, the Giants are hot-hot-hot! :)
Speaking of, here’s my pro-tip for getting to the ballpark: BART to Powell, then walk. Yes, I’m advocating not taking Muni. It’s Indian Summer out there, so take advantage of it. Also, Third Street during the playoffs is unlike your everyday Third Street: It’s lined with make-shift merchants who’ve come out of the woodwork to sell you stuff and get you hyped for the game.
But this is all neither here nor there. Here is the week in Muni news:
- SFMTA move curbs sick calls (SF Examiner)
- Woman in Pajamas Slaps Muni Bus Driver (SF Weekly)
- Muni officials working on a smart phone app (ABC 7/KGO)
- Scott Wiener: Muni ‘Beyond Incompetent’ (SF Weekly)
- Muni floats ideas to improve service (City Insider/SFGate)
Enjoy your weekend, and go, Giants!

Bicyclist Killed in Collision with Muni (Updates) 10.07.10

Original post: A bicyclist was killed in a collision with the 44 O’Shaughnessy bus at Sixth Avenue and Clement around 5 p.m. Thursday evening. According to Streetsblog San Francisco, this is the second bicyclist fatality this year. CBS5 has the raw footage of the scene after the accident.
The bus and the bicyclist were both traveling north when the collision happened, reports CBS5. The bicycle became trapped under the bus after the accident. A witness told Streetsblog that he believes the 44 bus had been trying to pass another 44 bus when the collision happened. The identity of the bicyclist has not been released.

Your Burning Questions on Prop. G and Reset SF 10.07.10
All kidding aside, the commericial doesn’t really explain what Proposition G is. Of course everyone’s all for the buses being more on-time and shorter waiting times. Prop. G would remove the minimum pay guarantee in the city charter for Muni drivers. Recently the drivers union told the San Francisco Bay Guardian they were against it. Surprised? Where do you stand on Prop. G?
In other news, Phil Ting’s ResetSanFrancisco.org is having a live webcast this afternoon at 4 p.m. with BART Board Director and transportation expert Tom Radulovich and Municipal Transportation Agency Commissioner Cameron Beach. Ting’s press folks say that this is their “Ask an Expert” online forum where you can discuss our transportation woes. No meeting to rely on Muni to be late for attend.
