Sundown at Powell Station

Reader Gregory just brightened my day.

I came across this scene while walking through Powell station en route to the Ferry Building. I decided to pass through the station instead of walking the well-trodden and energetic Market Street. The energy underground is much different. Bright florescent lights leave nothing uncovered, and the corridors echo the voices and whispers of those passing though.

From a hundred steps away I heard the soothing notes of a trumpet player and his mp3 orchestra. And as I turned the corner, this is what I saw.

Anyone know more about this trumpet player?

Thumb War Bonding on Muni

Sure, Muni sees much more than its fair share of violence. Fisticuffs and that sort of thing.

But this morning, @CaraLaDara observed and all-out war on Muni:

Father and daughter furiously debating the rules of thumb war. During thumb war. Giggles abound.

Okay, if that doesn’t melt, or least soften, your heart, we have some rehab numbers for you. Also, what exactly are the rules of thumb war?

Wallet Lost, Wallet Returned!

Reader Avi H. thought his wallet was lost forever, but sometimes the universe gives you a break, even when it’s on Muni. Here’s Avi’s story.

About three years ago, I was on the 66 heading inbound to go to school. When I left the bus, my wallet had fallen out of my hoody-jacket’s pocket and onto the seat. I got off the bus to wait for the 48 and started digging in my pockets to find the transfer. Unfortunately my wallet wasn’t there! I began panicking. I knew the likely story is that my wallet will never be returned. I called Muni Lost and Found, talked to other riders waiting at the bus stop, and even tried running after the bus.
(Side note: I am used to living in places where people do not return things, and thefts are of a daily occurrence.)
