Setting aside all talk of malodors and defecation for a moment, this week served up many inspiring nuggets witnessed and otherwise experienced on Muni and documented in 140 characters or less. Here’s a list of greatest hits for this week:

  • I witnessed someone bust out sheet music for clarinet or piano for the Moonlight Sonata on #SFMuni. I now have faith!
  • A woman just proposed to her girlfriend on a crowded 24 bus. Couldn’t get a picture but it was really sweet.
  • Something about the Muni 5 line brings out inner DJing desires in ppl. At least today it conjured Marvin Gaye
  • Another NJudah full of schoolchildren. However this time one polite student offered me her seat. Well done, Holy Name School.
  • Never Apologize for rocking out to @NeilDiamond on a muni bus. Ever. #truth

Another measles scare for BART riders

Just what we all needed to hear: People are still contracting measles and still spreading it on public transit in the Bay Area.

The latest possible contagion, reported this afternoon on SFGate, involves a Peninsula passenger who rode BART from Millbrae to SF last week. According to SFGate:

“The exposure is the second time this month that a person with measles rode BART, prompting a campaign to alert riders to possible exposure. In the most recent case, the individual got on a Richmond-bound train at the Millbrae Station at about 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 and got off at the Civic Center Station about 5 p.m.”

As much as people might like to vent about it, we managed to find what might be the happiest tweet that’s happened on Muni ever.

Muni rider Emily sent this very sweet moment our way: “A woman just proposed to her girlfriend on a crowded 24 bus. Couldn’t get a picture but it was really sweet.”

A proposal between two women on a crowded 24! Who says public transit is all kvetch?

Muni rider has the most appropriate response to Cheetos parody ad

Never shying away from calling-it-like-it-is, a Muni rider got something off his chest about the Cheetos ad found on a Mission bus stop. CBSLocal says that the ad is causing “raised eyebrows” and Cheetos told CBSLocal they did not create this ad. Methinks that perhaps this spoof ad refers to a long-forgotten meme: anyone remember Cheesus, the Jesus-shaped Cheeto found by a New York couple a few years ago?

For your reference, I’m talking about this guy:

Art depicts the future Muni Zombie Apocalypse

You have opinions about Muni drivers as a group, right? You wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t, I would guess. How are those opinions doing? Really?

Well, local artist Erika Chan sees Muni operators as human beings, and rightly so. They have families, needs, and hopes just like the rest of us. Also just like us, they are prone to the coming Zombie Apocalypse.

Erika depicted such an event in the art you see above. Good on ya, Erika.
