Muni Worm: No Need For “Improvement”

The city’s online project “Improve SF” announced an “SFMTA Design Challenge,” where SFMTA “invites you to co-create its identity for the future.” So what are we designing?

Join in the centennial celebration by submitting and voting on design concepts that reflect this character of the SFMTA as it enters its second century…Submit a concept in the form of logo, tagline, and color scheme. This is a unique opportunity for all creative members of the San Francisco community to participate and gain access to a broad audience. Once selected, the SFMTA will produce your winning concept.

But worry not, the beloved Muni worm is here to stay. We asked SFMTA spokesperson Murray Bond, who told us that the SFMTA Design Challenge only applies to the SFMTA brand, and not Muni. Confused yet?

For reference, you can see the SFMTA brand on their official page.

Have You Seen: Queue Stickers for Muni Buses?

@hellajenny posted this on Twitter the other day, correctly noting, “Well, that’s new.”

I sorta like it. It makes the bus look friendly (WHATEVER, IT DOES), and maybe it’ll encourage queuing/not bum-rushing to get on the vehicle first.

Though, I would miss the guessing game where you try to stand nearest to where the doors will open, then silently (or loudly, we won’t judge) celebrate your hitting the mark.

Have you seen these around town? Do they work? We’ll leave “work” up to individual interpretation.

Muni Diaries Birthday Party Surprise

Last Saturday we celebrated our fourth birthday with a party at the Make-Out Room where we shared margaritas and chicharoones and mugged in front of the Orange Photography photobooth, all to tunes from the golden age of hip hop.

One of the best surprises that evening came from rider Christa, who brought these cool Fast Pass name tags for everybody just for fun!You might remember Christa’s other crafty endeavor, a 22-Fillmore Moleskin notebook.

Here she is wearing one of the fun name tags.

So thoughtful! Reminds me of the time when Rachel brought these cute Muni line mini cupcakes to Muni Diaries Live.

Thanks Christa!

We have more photos from the party courtesy of Orange Photography. Stay tuned!
