Be as adorable and positive as this emergency handle while it guides you to safety.
In addition to being a welcome a.m. greeting for this cranky 14R commuter, it’s good companion piece to another recent reminder: keep your eyes up and your phone down when riding public transportation.
Is pareidolia a potential SFMTA marketing campaign? I think so!

People collect things. It’s one of the things people do. It’s fun, and sometimes borders on sickness.
Grace collects things she overhears in San Francisco. She alerted us to the special room in her house of overheards: Overheard on Muni. Naturally, we bought in.
OH in SF (on the 14L):
Woman: Hey that’s knitting she’s doing! My Dr. says I should learn that cuz it’ll relax my mind, also I need to find an AA meeting.

The 14, 14L, and 49 are heading back on their normal Mission Street routes starting this Saturday. These lines were rerouted in early March to make way for road work. The Department of Public Works told MissionLocal that some of the improvements include new bus bulbs at the 24th Street BART plaza, curb ramps along Mission Street, as well as underground repairs of gas lines, earthquake-resistant pipes, and water mains. The DPW also repaved Mission street between 16th Street and Cesar Chavez.
MissionLocal also reports that the SFMTA used the rerouting to see if the temporary route was actually better than the original route.
For now, it’s back to our old familiar bus stops along Mission Street again.
The 14, 14L, and 49 buses will be moved from Mission Street to South Van Ness for six months beginning early next month. MissionLocal reports that the reroute will span 14th to 26th streets to make way for roadwork in that area on Mission Street. Above, you’ll find a handy map of the affected area, via Mission Local.
So far, reaction ranges from “Oh, is this what that flier was about?” to “Really? We have to walk to Van Ness, practically the East Bay, to get on and off a bus?”

Update (6:02 p.m.): We just heard from SFMTA, who says the official announcement contained an error. 14L service to Daly City BART begins Monday, not Saturday. Muni will run the buses to Daly City in the mornings and evenings only.
Just in time to ferry people to the next Muni Diaries Live, Muni has announced that, beginning this SaturdayMonday, the 14L-Mission Limited will begin serving the Daly City BART station.
SF Appeal has the story.
