Meet the newest editors in the Muni Diaries crew

We are excited to introduce two awesome people who are joining the Muni Diaries crew to make this quirky diary of city living even more fun. If you are a part of the local Transit Twitter community, you are probably already familiar with their names: Kat Siegal and Sarah Katz-Hyman are joining the Muni Diaries Crew as our new editors!

We’ve always admired Kat and Sarah’s deep knowledge of public transit, their local activism, and their love for this city. I feel so fortunate that as Muni Diaries grows into its teenage years, we are keeping the storytelling strong by adding two incredibly thoughtful (and witty) San Franciscans to the crew.

Here’s more about Kat and Sarah, in their own words:

Last Day To Get Famous On Muni

See that empty ad space? You can fix that! Photo by Robert B. Livingston

100 Muni StoriesToday is the last day of our “100 Days, 100 Muni Stories” contest, which means: you can get on a bus, point to an ad, and say to your friend/date/random passenger next to you, “Hey, I wrote that.”

We’re celebrating 100 years of Muni by putting a part of your Muni story on a bus ad that will be displayed in the interior of all Muni surface buses. And you only have a few hours to send your stories (tweets too), because we’re closing the contest at 11:59 p.m. today.

Our guest judge is Isaac “Mr. Rad” Fitzgerald, managing editor of The Rumpus (have you subscribed to their Letters In The Mail program yet?), who will help us choose two winners from the pool.

So get your stories in today by using the hashtag #100MuniStories!

5 More Days to Submit Your Bus Ad in 100 Muni Stories!

We’ve been celebrating 100 years of Muni by hosting the “100 Days, 100 Muni Stories” contest. A portion of your story could end up on an ad inside the bus! 100 days goes by quickly, and we are in the last week of the contest. The contest ends Tuesday, July 31 at 11:59 p.m., so get your stories in now, or send us tweets by using the hash tag #100MuniStories.

And if you’re wondering what literary heavyweight will be judging the best Muni story, we’ve got that covered. The wonderfully funny and talented Isaac Fitzgerald will be our guest judge for the “100 Days, 100 Muni Stories” contest. Isaac is the managing editor of The Rumpus and has regaled you with his own Muni stories at Muni Diaries Live (bus hero, heyo!).

So get your stories and tweets to us. Only five more days until public transit fame could be yours.

Submit stories here. Email stories. Tweet stories. DO IT.

This Sunday! Gettin’ Around: A Muni-Themed Photo Workshop

Photo: sixsixty

Free on Sunday? Help us pay homage, the analog way, to one of the world’s most photogenic urban landscapes. RSVP as “Going” right on the Facebook invite to secure your spot. Or, you can call, email, or RSVP in person to the Lomography store.

Muni Diaries and Lomography SF are teaming up for a Muni-themed photo workshop. First, we’ll go over beginners’ tips and tricks for analog street and transportation photography. We’ll focus on how to shoot on Muni — one of our fair city’s best muses — and outside of it. Then, we’ll turn you loose with a fine camera — La Sardina or Diana Mini — so you can put those tips into practice ASAP. If you’ve got your own 35mm Lomography camera, you’re more than welcome to bring it and shoot with that!

When:
1 p.m., Sunday, July 22
Start to finish should be roughly three hours.
Workshop starts at the Lomography Gallery Store in Union Square:
309 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA
(415) 248-0096

Cost:
$10 per person or $7 for students, plus up to an additional $16 for various developing/digitizing/printing options.

But wait, there’s more:
Heads up, sharpest shooters: the best photo shot at the workshop wins a prize.

Hope to see you there!
