BART operator Kelly Beardsley has had many odd jobs in his life, but we’re pretty sure that driving a BART train is probably the quirkiest of them all. Here he is at Muni Diaries Live last year telling a story about a disturbing and hilarious behind-the-scenes tale from the driver’s seat.

Video: H.P. Mendoza and his ukulele pay homage to old Mission theaters

We really had no idea what was in store when H.P. Mendoza told us he was going to bring his ukulele with him when he returned to the stage at Muni Diaries Live. Boy were we all in for a treat.

Around 2:01, H.P. shared his amazing childhood journal technique, gluing Muni transfers to the pages to denote the date:

He then serenaded (yes, serenaded) us in the most charming way with a song about a bygone era in San Francisco, as seen from inside the 14-Mission. Captured in full in the video above, the song begins around 2:45. Lyrics below.

Video: The Third Muni Haiku Battle

Muni Haiku Battle has its legs, you guys. At Muni Diaries Live on Nov. 9 (full event recap here), we brought back our reigning, two-time champ James Nestor to square off in a 17-syllable slugfest against MDL favorite Jesse James. Oh, the haiku, they did volley from one microphone to the other and into our ears and psyches forever and ever and ever. Try to unsee, for example, “Neighbor’s Us Weekly holds her interest. Casually she tongues an open sore.”

The vote was close, but Jesse took Round 1. Our champ was down, but not out. Round 2 video below.

Sal Castaneda’s ‘Bad-Ass’ Muni Moment

We knew we had a treasure on our hands when Sal agreed to tell a story on stage at Muni Diaries Live last month. Today, we’re bringing Sal’s performance to the internets. Thank You, Khaki-Pants Metro Hero

We made an exception for Rumpus editor Isaac Fitzgerald to tell a story about the D.C. Metro at the Muni Diaries Reunion Show a few weeks ago. And we’re so glad we did. Isaac told a story about heroics on the D.C. Metro, and why wearing khaki pants doesn’t necessarily make you gangster.

Isaac was such a hit that he may have inspired a Missed Connection ad from our event. And you thought you didn’t believe in fate and true love.

Have fun watching Isaac’s retelling of his D.C. Metro story (involving a hockey move!) and try not to laugh too loud in your cube…
