It’s not like I like creeping on people, but when you see style this good, can you really help it but sneak a snap in? Thanks to @commutelife, here’s the best look of the day. I have no idea where this gentleman is going, but I definitely want to be his friend.

And here’s another classic Muni hairstyle that deserves our respect.

Happy Friday, everybody.

See San Francisco’s cable cars get dressed up for the holidays

How did we get to December already? Our beloved cable cars got in the holiday spirit this weekend, getting all dressed up for the holidays. Muni rider Jeremy Whiteman sent over these wonderful photos of gripman Val Lupiz and his family decorate a cable car for the holidays, along with members of San Francisco Remembered.

We at Muni Diaries had the chance to partake in this very cool behind-the-scenes, super San Francisco activity a few years ago with Market Street Railway. It was definitely a treat to decorate cable cars and streetcars with lights, tinsel, ribbons, and boxes of trim.

San Francisco Remembered is a public Facebook group where you can see and share vintage photos of our city after 1907. Right now in the group, there are some wonderful photos of the City of Paris store and the ginormous Christmas tree under the dome (you know, that one that’s in today’s Westfield mall). It’s definitely worth checking out and getting to know your SF history.

Official-looking BART ad implores riders: Get your shit together

bart-sign-no-islamaphobia-by-yearofthefilm

Someone with crafty Photoshop fingers made these official-looking ads on BART, and I think we can all approve of this message:

“Attention BART riders: Racism, Sexism, Islamophobia, Homophobia, Transphobia and Zenophobia are prohibited in the BART system at all times. Get your shit together.”

A good message at any time, especially now.

Here are some more creative hacks of Muni and BART signs:

SFMTA hackers got hacked

muni-hack-screen-kpix

Karma is a bitch. The hackers who infiltrated SFMTA’s computer system last weekend got hacked themselves, according to this Forbes story. After the Forbes reporter contacted the hacker via the email address in the hacker’s error message display, the reporter received a response from someone who claims to have taken over access of the account to turn the ransomware hackers over to the FBI.

The ransomware hackers had shown this message on Muni’s computer screens: “You Hacked, ALL Data Encrypted. Contact For Key(cryptom27@yandex.com)ID:681 ,Enter.” This allowed reporters to contact the hackers, and now the FBI is on the case, according to the Examiner.

A message saying, “You hacked, ALL data encrypted” appeared across computer screens across Muni stations yesterday, reports the San Francisco Examiner. Fare systems crashed Saturday, which meant everyone rode for free until the system was restored. SFMTA confirmed with ABC7 that the system was indeed hacked and went back online on Sunday.

The Examiner reports that the message read, “You Hacked, ALL Data Encrypted. Contact For Key(cryptom27@yandex.com)ID:681 ,Enter.”
