Weekend Photos: Await

I couldn’t help but smile when I found Michelle Chan’s photo of her younger brother carrying a bouquet of roses on Muni. Who can resist?

Here’s some good info from SFMTA on tomorrow’s St. Patrick’s Day parade and Muni routes that will be affected.

Enjoy these photos and your weekend!

BART protest could snarl evening commute in SF (updates)

Update (1:38 p.m. Thursday): SFist reports that a protest will take place at Civic Center Station today at 4:30.

Update (7:35 a.m. Thursday): BART was pretty cryptic in their message last night. We found this on SFGate: Possible protests related to July BART Police shooting.

Original post: I just don’t know what this could be (too many possibilities, really), but from the BART.gov website:

Please be advised that protesters may attempt to disrupt train service during August commute periods beginning as early as Thursday, August 11, 2011 in downtown San Francisco BART stations.

Read the rest of the advisory on the BART website. And plan ahead?

Weekend Photos: Inside Looking Out

Admiring the scenery

It’s already almost-August. That’s just nuts. But at least the fog will go away, and with it, those false Mark Twain comments.

And if you’re a youngster riding Muni, don’t forget that, starting in August, your Youth Fast Pass will be on a Clipper card. No more paper passes for you. You still get summers off, though, so stop complaining.

Also, around this time every year, the San Francisco Bay Guardian announces the winners of its editors and readers choice Best of the Bay awards. We lobbied you to vote Muni Diaries best local blog, and we thank you for your votes. Alas, we didn’t make the cut. Our friends at SFist did win best local blog 2011, deservingly, and we congratulate them.

Here are some fun things going on this weekend around town:

Check the SFMTA’s weekend transit and traffic advisories, and you’ll no longer be able to say they didn’t tell ya.

Enjoy these photos and your weekend!

Weekend Photos: On the Floor of Muni

As much as we want your eyeballs on this post, seriously get away from the computer right freaking now. It is amazingly springlike in San Francisco, and should be all weekend, including possible showers on Sunday.

Still with us? Okay. Earlier this week on Muni Time Capsule, Eric Fischer’s photo of an old streetcar dressed in cable car clothes, and on a street that was never part of a streetcar route, had some of us scratching our heads and admiring at the same time. Perplexing stuff.

Did you know that Muni Diaries has a Facebook page? If not, check it out and never be without your daily dose of Muni this and Muni that. We’re also on Twitter. Speaking of, this week saw the debut of a new MD feature: Meanwhile, on @munidiaries, where we’ll be compiling the best tweets and twitpics of the week every Thursday.

SF Appeal has details on this weekend’s Muni traffic advisory.

Here’s the week’s Muni news:

  • Muni drivers sleeping, speeding, snacking while operating trains, state agency says (SF Examiner)
  • We’re transportation innovators (SFGate)
  • Muni objects to state criticism of rail lines (SFGate)
  • Tab for Muni collision in West Portal Tunnel nears $6 million (SFGate’s City Insider)
  • Washington airport group makes no decision on hiring Nathaniel Ford (SF Examiner)
  • SFMTA Fires At Least Seven Employees for Ticket Fixing, Investigation Ongoing (SF Appeal)
  • SFMTA Board Votes to Give 12,000 Free Muni Passes to Low-Income Students (BCN via SF Appeal)
  • SFMTA: Local Hire Will Kill Central Subway Project (SF Appeal)
  • Muni N-Judah train strikes car that ran stop sign (SF Examiner || SF Appeal)
  • CPUC leaders absent from Muni’s hearing on regulation infractions (SF Examiner)
  • Muni operators accuse agency of ignoring safety protocols (SF Examiner)
  • Cameron Beach and Jerry Lee’s Future as SFMTA Board Members Uncertain (Streetsblog SF)

What are you up to this weekend? Whatever it is, enjoy!

Weekend Photos: Streetcars Without Names

This week at Muni Time Capsule we bring you Cranky Old Mission Guy’s 1970s Fast Passes. They’re a colorful, beautiful testament to a soon-to-be-bygone era. Whole Wheat Toast says they look like the insides of a Clipper card. Have a look.

A quick reminder that this will be a three-day weekend for many of you (Presidents’ Day is Monday), and BART will be running on a Saturday schedule on Monday, as will Muni. Muni will also be affected by Saturday’s Chinese New Year Parade.

And if you’re looking for things to do this weekend, join the folks who run the The Tender for another installment of Tender Nights, the post-Valentine’s Day edition. Tomorrow night at 6 at Koko Cocktails. Anything else fun going on you want to share with fellow Muni riders? Do so in the comments here or on the Muni Diaries Facebook page (“like” us while you’re there, please).

And now for a rather hefty helping of the week’s Muni news:

  • Police Have No Suspects in Last Weekend’s Powell Station Pepper Spraying that Injured Eight (SF Appeal)
