In Case You Missed Friday’s Penis Puppet Show

We are still on a high from Friday’s Riders with Drinks, where so many of you came out that the Make-Out Room had to call for backup bartenders! We are speechless about the great energy from our performers and audience. We’ve got more Muni stories in the bag, but before we move on with the week, here is a little recap of the hot, hilarious, and awesome night at Riders with Drinks.

If you were there on Friday, you know that we closed the show with some homemade sock puppet re-enactment of the “Penis in public” story. Pictures of the puppets and other hilarity after the jump.

Riders with Drinks: Hella Hot, Literally

Thank you to those of you who made it last night to Riders with Drinks, our first event! We are still in disbelief how many people we managed to pack into the Make-Out Room, raising the temperature in there by at least 20 degrees, I think.

We’ve got photos and videos to share, but for now, check out the post by the Tenderblog about last night’s spoken word hilarity. And for a little weekend fun, here’s a selection of goodies from last night’s Muni haiku troupe:

Stop yelling at me
Or just stop yelling near me
Did I just get flashed?
– Tara Ramroop

On crowded buses,
Always protect purses and —
Oh look, Some vomit!
– Ileana Shevlin

I, Muni Humper
Filled with longing and despair
Are you my angel?
– Chris Lindsey

Concerning a Morning Twitter Kerfuffle Involving NextBus and MuniTime

photoLast night, we spotted a tweet that read thusly:

@NextMuni iPhone app shut down by Muni today. Thanks for taking away the only decent transit app for SF, Muni. Genius, as usual.

We retweeted, adding a “wha?” before the RT text.

Oh boy did we wake up to a storm this morning. I’ll spare the details, but a barrage of tweets came our way, saying this and that about what iPhone apps were working, what was taken down, and who was responsible. Soon enough, the message distilled itself a little, and most fingers pointed toward NextBus.com. So I got on the ol’ email machine and touched base with the kind gents over there at NextBus.com, and here’s what they had to say:

NextBus Inc did not ask MuniTime.com to take down their website. A separate company claiming ownership rights over the data did. We have asked the developer of MuniTime.com to clarify this situation on their website and they agreed to do so ASAP.

Still not sure who or what asked MuniTime to take down their service. When/if we get word, we’ll pass it along to you.

But the lesson here (which is one we could stand to learn from, to be sure) is: Watch what you tweet.

Good day.

What? Muni Diaries Editor Named Broke-Ass of the Week?

stuart

Hells yeah! And guess what? I’m still broke! But please, don’t take that as a solicitation of money (or underpants). Just keep reading and contributing to this site, and you’ll make this broke-ass’s life that much more enriched.

Big thanks to Stuart for featuring my broke-ass, and showing all sorts of kindness toward the not-so-well-off.

Broke-Ass of the Week — Jeff Hunt from Muni Diaries

This time around our Broke-Ass of the Week is Jeff Hunt from Muni Diaries. When I asked him what he wanted people to know about his site, he had this to say:

We want Muni Diaries to be the place people go to tell and read stories of the crazy and sometimes-poignant shit that happens on Muni and BART. We’ve all got stories and we’ve all heard friends and coworkers spin yarns of their own. Muni is too much a part of life in SF not to be a treasure trove of great stories. Stranger than fiction, often.

Muni Diaries Live: Riders With Drinks at the Make-Out Room!

#048: Jun

Did you know Muni Diaries is best enjoyed with a live audience, accompanied by a beer or cocktail? Come join us for Muni Diaries’ first ever Riders With Drinks event at the Make-Out Room on Friday, June 12.

In the fine tradition of spoken word, your fellow Muni riders will read their stories, recite Muni-related haikus, re-enact some funny Muni scenes (finger puppets, anyone?), and everything in between. The idea is to tell Muni stories in whatever form that inspires you, so if you’ve got a Muni tale to share, or music, art, photography, or video inspired by Muni and would like to join the lineup, email us asap!

By the way, we are one of the main events at the Make-Out Room that night, which means our name will be on the big sign outside! Can you tell we’re really excited?

Pub crawl round-up

The first Muni Diaries pub crawl was a success! Despite some of us forgetting what time the festivities began *points at self*, a nice little group of us met up first at Lucky 13, surrounding a table covered in happy-hour pints, Goldfish crackers, popcorn and Muni Diaries buttons.

From there, we NextBus’d a 22, which we thought we were boarding. The marquis on the bus that pulled up read, “S.F. Muni,” and the driver asked everyone who boarded where they wanted to go. If their desired stop was along the route to (presumably) the Potrero yard, they were allowed gratis entry. Those of us ready to fork over fare lucked out, thanks to this exceedingly generous driver.

From there, we swung over to Dalva, where we happened to bump into Greg from N-Judah Chronicles on his way out. We convinced Greg and his brother to stick around, and they did. We picked up a couple more crawlers at Dalva (which, for the record, is an iPhone 3G and EDGE dead zone, thus the Twitter drop off last night), then proceeded to Mission to await a 14 or 49.
